But at teatime another thing happened. Effie's brother Harry fished something out of his tea, which he thought at first was an earwig. He was just getting ready to drop it on the floor, and end its life in the usual way, when it shook itself in the spoon—spread two wet wings, and flopped onto the tablecloth. There it sat, stroking itself with its feet and stretching its wings, and Harry said: "Why, it's a tiny newt!"

Of all the mysteries in the world, none has been as popular as that of the Loch Ness Monster. Perhaps the biggest mystery is whether it is convincing evidence or a simple desire to believe that keeps the myth alive.
Loch Ness is a lake in Scotland. The loch, or lake, is known for sightings of a mysterious monster. Most who see this monster, known as Nessie, describe something with a long neck and several humps above the water. Sometimes the "monster" is moving in these sightings, and sometimes it is still. Many have suggested that Nessie might be a plesiosaur (plea-see-a-soar), an aquatic dinosaur that was trapped in the loch after the last ice age.
The plesiosaur theory presents several problems. First, the plesiosaur is an air breather. Such a creature would need to surface often and, therefore, be seen more frequently. Second, it's unlikely that the same creature has lived in the loch since the last ice age. Today's creature would have to be the offspring of an original plesiosaur trapped long ago. This would suggest multiple creatures in the loch (needed to produce offspring). Again, sightings would be more frequent if this were the case.
So from a purely logical stand point, the existence of such a large and ancient creature is unlikely. But assume for a minute that it is possible. What would a plesiosaur need to live in an enclosed lake?
Tropical waters: Scientists believe plesiosaurs were warm-blooded. Like crocodiles and alligators, plesiosaurs would need to live in warm waters. The loch is very cold with temperatures averaging about 40 degrees Fahrenheit (4.4 Celsius).
Food: Like other warm-blooded creatures, plesiosaurs would need a large quantity of food. If there is a group of Nessies, then even more food would be needed. Because the loch is full of silt (underwater dust) not much light gets into the deepest areas. So the food chain, which would depend on plankton, is very weak at its base. As a result, there is probably not enough food to support such a large creature.
However, the plesiosaur theory is not the only one. Many other ideas attempt to explain the sightings and "photographs." But two separate sonar surveys of the loch have not found any evidence of a creature larger than a salmon. The last survey,1 completed in 2007 by the British Broadcasting Company (BBC), involved 600 different sonar beams. Using satellite navigation systems, the team made sure every inch of the loch was searched. The team found nothing.
With cell phones and digital cameras, one would think that sightings of Nessie would increase. This has not happened. The BBC team believes the legend of Nessie has endured because people see what they want to see. To prove this, the team used a fence post, raising it before groups of tourists. Afterwards several of the tourists asked to draw pictures of what they had seen drew pictures of a monster's head.
1"BBC 'proves' Nessie does not exist." 27 July, 2003.

Summarize the whole text about the story “The Treasure of Lemon Brown”
Answer:
The Treasure of Lemon Brown by Walter Dean Myers is a short story written in third-person narrative. It revolves around a young boy named Greg, who is upset about his father’s decision not to allow him to play basketball on account of his poor grades. An encounter with an old man named Lemon Brown changes Greg’s perspective, reminding him about the importance of his relationship with his father, which transcends anything else.
The story begins with the main character, Greg Ridley, sitting at the stoop of his building. The dark clouds reflect his mood as he thinks back to the lecture he received from his father- all because the Principal had sent a letter to their house about Greg’s failing math grade. Greg’s father had to leave school at 13, and he is disappointed that Greg is wasting the opportunities presented to him. Greg wants to play for the community center’s basketball team and even got accepted, and now he wouldn’t be able to. His father’s condition was the status of his next report card, which turned out not to be up to par.
As a storm begins to brew, Greg decides against going home immediately, despite knowing the scolding he would receive for it. Instead, he heads to an old, abandoned tenement where impromptu checker tournaments were often held. The door is slightly ajar, so he pushes it open only to see that it is completely dark. He sits for a while, thinking about his father, who worked extremely hard to pass the test to become a hospital worker, and whom Greg is very proud of. At this time, he feels a movement and realizes he is not alone in the warehouse.
Suddenly, an old man named Lemon Brown threatens Greg not to try anything, for he has a razor that could “cut him up”. Greg is appropriately terrified but calms himself down enough to respond. They exchange names and Greg finds out that Lemon Brown stays in that warehouse. Brown asks whether he’s one of the “bad boys” looking for his treasure, and when Greg says that if Lemon Brown has one, he’s not looking for it, Brown tells him that every man has a treasure. As their conversation continues, Lemon Brown reveals that he used to sing the blues before he hit some hard times. He used to have a son, “knotty-headed”, just like Greg.
They hear a noise, hiding immediately when a group of thugs enter. They are looking for Lemon Brown’s treasure, and have been frequenting the warehouse for the past few days for that very purpose. As they shone the light, almost finding Lemon Brown, Greg howled to divert the attention, thereby allowing Brown to tackle the thugs and chase them away. It is then that Lemon Brown shows Greg his treasure- some old newspaper clippings and a worn harmonica. The clippings showed Lemon Brown performing the blues in various places almost fifty years ago, praising him as the hit of the show. Lemon Brown explains that he used to make enough money to feed his wife and son well, until his wife died and his son, Jesse, went to live with his aunt. He grew up to become a soldier and was killed in war. When Lemon Brown went home and got the letter, he was also sent all the things Jesse used to carry- those old clippings of his father and a fiddle. It touched Brown’s heart that those clippings of him were so important to his son, and they became his treasure.
When Greg asks whether this treasure holds more value than a pipe, Lemon Brown says that a man’s greatest treasure is what he can pass down to his child. It is after this that they part ways, Lemon Brown assuring him that he’d be okay. Greg decides against telling his father about the old man. Instead, when he rings the bell to his house, he thinks about the upcoming lecture he would surely receive. This time, he smiles.

excerpt from “Solitude” by Henry David Thoreau
Henry David Thoreau was a writer and philosopher. He was a major figure in the transcendentalist movement. Transcendentalists feel a deep connection to nature. They believe people connect directly with God and are born with innate goodness. For two years, Thoreau lived in a small cabin he built in the woods. He felt people should live closer to nature instead of relying on material wealth. “Solitude” is an essay from his book Walden; of, Life in the Woods.
This is a delicious evening, when the whole body is one sense, and imbibes delight through every pore. I go and come with a strange liberty in Nature, a part of herself. As I walk along the stony shore of the pond in my shirt sleeves, though it is cool as well as cloudy and windy, and I see nothing special to attract me, all the elements are unusually congenial to me. The bullfrogs trump to usher in the night, and the note of the whippoorwill is borne on the rippling wind from over the water. Sympathy with the fluttering alder and poplar leaves almost takes away my breath; yet, like the lake, my serenity is rippled but not ruffled. These small waves raised by the evening wind are as remote from storm as the smooth reflecting surface. Though it is now dark, the wind still blows and roars in the wood, the waves still dash, and some creatures lull the rest with their notes. The repose is never complete. The wildest animals do not repose, but seek their prey now; the fox, and skunk, and rabbit, now roam the fields and woods without fear. They are Nature’s watchmen, —links which connect the days of animated life. . . .
Some of my pleasantest hours were during the long rain storms in the spring or fall, which confined me to the house for the afternoon as well as the forenoon, soothed by their ceaseless roar and pelting; when an early twilight ushered in a long evening in which many thoughts had time to take root and unfold themselves. . . . Men frequently say to me, “I should think you would feel lonesome down there, and want to be nearer to folks, rainy and snowy days and nights especially.” I am tempted to reply to such,—This whole earth which we inhabit is but a point in space. How far apart, think you, dwell the two most distant inhabitants of yonder star, the breadth of whose disk cannot be appreciated by our instruments? Why should I feel lonely? Is not our planet in the Milky Way? This which you put seems to me not to be the most important question. What sort of space is that which separates a man from his fellows and makes him solitary? I have found that no exertion of the legs can bring two minds much nearer to one another.

Answer:
him driving to the post office
Explanation:
because we are trying to find out how far his office is, we do not need to know how fat the post office is
Answer:
Total distance Mr. Webester drives per week to his office is 182 miles.
Step-by-step explanation:
Number of days per week he goes to office = 4
The distance to Mr. Webesters office from home = 23.7 miles.
The distance to Mr. Webesters home from office = 21.8 miles.
Total distance drove per day = The distance to Mr. Webesters office from home + The distance to Mr. Webesters home from office
Total distance drove per day = 23.7 + 21.8 = 45.5 miles
Total distance Mr. Webester drives per week to his office = Number of days per week he goes to office x Total distance drove per day
Total distance Mr. Webester drives per week to his office = 4 x 45.5
Total distance Mr. Webester drives per week to his office = 182 miles
Total distance Mr. Webester drives per week to his office is 182 miles.
The killer clowns Chapter 3
Reader beware you’re in for a scare
One week after Rosa’s death, the clowns had the world completely under their control.
Estella had just heard the news of Rosa’s death and was devastated. “Oh Rosa,” Estella cried, looking forlorn “Why did you have to mess with Pennywise?” Then she went to a dusty trunk in the corner “I vowed never to open this chest ever again… but I have to save Rosa.” Estella pulled out a dusty spell book and set it on the table. She flipped to the page about bringing people back to life. “The blood of the killer poured into the mouth of the killed shall raise the dead man from his earthy bed.” Estella read. She went to Pennywise’s lair and collected a little bit of his blood.
Later, at the graveyard, Estella was pouring the blood of Pennywise into Rosa’s mouth. Rosa immediately opened her eyes, while her arms grew back, “Estella, where am I? what happened?” Rosa said, looking around. “Rosa, you must kill Pennywise, before EVERYONE dies!” “Ok,” said Rosa “ I will try.” Rosa then went home and gathered her weapons, put her brass knuckles on, and went to Pennywise’s lair.
When she got there, Rosa started to have second thoughts, but she kept on moving. There was blood splattered across the walls, dismembered body parts all over the place, and torture devices on a stage in the far corner. But she kept moving till she got to Pennywise’s throne. “HEY, PENNYWISE” Rosa yelled “ YOU ARE SO UGLY THAT WHEN YOU WERE BORN, THE DOCTOR SLAPPED YOUR MOTHER.” “Rosa” Pennywise snarled “didn’t I kill you already?” Rosa then conjured a whirlwind around her and flew to Pennywise, “yeah and you will have to do it again” she said and then stabbed Pennywise in the heart, took out all of the clowns, and saved anymore innocent people from a cruel death for the clowns entertainment.
