One of the themes of "The Necklace" centers on "trying to be something you are not." Cite
evidence from the text that illustrate this theme, making sure to explain how the evidence
illustrates the theme.
Answer:
she became pretty because of jewelery? I think so, in this story it said," She fastened it round her throat, outside her high-necked waist, and was lost in ecstasy at her reflection in the mirror." Which I think shes trying to look outstanding with jewelery that is rich and shes the exact opposite of rich. So she had the look of ecstasy (overwhelming happiness) of her so called beauty. In this story the way of beauty is from how rich you are, so if your poor you look unpleasant and hideous. She is trying to look rich and beautiful, which is something she's not, and is why its one of the themes.

Explain the Nazi ideology (system of ideas) and what actions they took as a
result of this belief.
Answer:
Prior to Hitler joining, the Nazi Party held extremely nationalist, racist and antisemitic views. After Hitler had joined the party, he expanded upon and marketed these ideas.
Explanation: Hitler had a racist world view. He believed that people could be separated into a hierarchy of different races, where some races were superior and others were inferior. Hitler believed the German race to be the superior race, and called the German race ‘Aryan’.
Hitler and the Nazis considered Jews to be an inferior race of people, who set out to weaken other races and take over the world. Hitler believed that Jews were particularly destructive to the German ‘Aryan’ race, and did not have any place in Nazi Germany.
Hitler also wanted to rid Germany of the disabled, homosexuals, Roma and Sinti, and other minorities that did not fit in to his idea of an Aryan race. The Nazis labelled these groups ‘a-social’.
Hitler was an extreme nationalist, believing the German ‘Aryan’ race should dominate. His expansionist policies sought ‘Lebensraum‘ for the German people. Hitler wanted to create a generation of young Aryans who were physically fit and totally obedient through programmes such as Hitler Youth. He believed these policies would unite Germany and ensure it was the strongest nation on earth.
Answer:
The nazi ideology was grown as one of a higher race hence the mass execution of jews and others who didn't fit in, on the basis of this a war was started and million killed, however, the core of this issue is racism. Racist ideology caused the major upheaval of an entire continent, and the thought of a superstate where people were oppressed or killed was enjoyed by the man who began the Nazis.
Explanation:
When preparing to write a critical analysis discussing the protagonist in a short story, the course content suggests that it is not necessary to do a thorough annotated reading because the writer/critic's perception of the protagonist may change with too many re-readings and too much annotation.
Answer:
False.
Explanation:
An annotated reading, also known as close reading, is essential to prepare a critical analysis of a character or a short story. This is because this type of reading allows a detailed visualization of the work, stimulating understanding and facilitating the analysis of the reader. In this type of reading, the reader is able to underline keywords and write down perceptions that could be very useful for criticism.

trouble with Othello.
Answer:
Act 1(AO1)
Explanation:
OTHELLO: THE HERO DRIVEN BY LOVE:
The Moor Othello, a respected general, has secretly married a wealthy Venetian aristocrat, Desdemona. Her father, Barbantio, is informed of this (on the night of the marriage) by Roderigo, who had hoped to marry Desdemona himself. Barbantio goes in search of Othello and then makes his way to the Senate where he accuses Othello of bewitching his daughter;
"That thou hast practised on her with foul charms, abused her delicate youth with drugs or minerals."
(Act I, Scene 2)
"She is abused, stolen from me, corrupted by spells and medicines."
(ACT I, Scene 3)
(possible context of black people and witches)
Barbantio's accusations are proved false when Othello and Desdemona explain how they fell in love. The Duke of Venice tries to reconcile Barbantio to his daughter's marriage but the angry father disowns Desdemona.
"That I have ta'en away this old man's daughter,
it is most true. True, I have married her.
The very head and front of my offending
Hath this extent, no more."
(Act I, Scene 3)
(It's true that I've taken this man's daughter from him and married her. But that's my only offence. There's nothing more.)
"Her father loved me, oft invited me,
Still questioned me the story of my life
From year to year, the battles, sieges, fortunes,
That I have passed...She'd come again and with a greedy ear"
(Act I, Scene 3)
(Desdemona used to listen attentively. If she had to go do some household chore, I noticed that she'd always come back quickly to hear more of my stories. Desdemona fell in love with Othello and his past. Compelling stories that captured Desdemona's heart.)
The Senate sends Othello to defend Cyprus from a Turkish invasion. Desdemona asks to be allowed to accompany her husband, She is put in the care of Othello's ensign, Iago. Iago's wife, Emilia, is to be Desdemona's lady-in-waiting.
"The Turk with a most mighty preparation makes for Cyprus. Othello, the fortitude of the place is best known to you."
(Act I, Scene 3)
(The Turks are heading for Cyprus with a powerful fleet. Othello, you understand better than anyone how the defences for Cyprus work. Even though we have a very good officer in charge there already, everyone says you're the better man for the job. Emphasises the political respect they have for Othello.)
"And I a heavy interim shall support
By his dear absence. Let me go with him."
(Act I, Scene 3)
(When I fell in love with Othello I made up my mind that I wanted to live with him. You can see how much I wanted to be with him by how violently I threw away my old life. I feel like I'm a part of him now, and that means I'm part of a soldier. I saw Othello's true face when I saw his mind. I gave my whole life to him because of his honour and bravery. If I were left at home uselessly while he went off to war, then I'm separated from my husband in his natural element. I'd be miserable without him. Let me go with him
IAGO: THE VILLAIN DRIVEN BY REVENGE:
Iago is an embittered man, who is angry because Othello has not given him the promotion that he believes is due to him. A young Florentine soldier, Cassio has been made lieutenant over him.
"I know my price, I am worth no worse a place."
(Act I, Scene 1)
And I know my own worth well enough to know I deserve that position [to be made Othello's lieutenant
"says he, "I have already chose my officer."
And what was he?... One Michael Cassio, a Florentine."
"But he, sir, had th' election"
(Act I, Scene 1)
(I've already chosen my lieutenant," he says. And who does he choose? A guy who knows more about numbers than fighting! This guy from Florence named Michael Cassio. Iago's jealousy illustrated/introduced by Shakespeare.)
(But Cassio's been chosen over me.)
Iago seeks to revenge himself on both Cassio and Othello, and has already made trouble for Othello; it was he who persuaded Roderigo to inform Brabantio of Desdemona's elopement in the first scene.
"I follow him to serve my turn upon him."
Act I, Scene 1)
(I'm serving under him to take advantage of him. Manipulation and deception. His Machiavellian character introduced.)
"Call up her father. Rouse him. Make after him, Poison his delight, Proclaim him in the streets."
(Act I, Scene 1)
(Let's shout up to Desdemona's father, wake him, pester him, spoil his happiness, spread rumours about him in the streets. Iago encouraged Roderigo.)
"I hate the Moor, And it is thought abroad that 'twixt my sheets. He's done my office. I know not if 't be true, But I, for mere suspicion in that kind,
Will do as if for surety. He holds me well.
The better shall my purpose work on him.
Cassio's a proper man. Let me see now, To get his place and to plume up my will
In double knavery. How?"

Explanation:
Your task is to watch some commercials and to guess how they achieve their persuasive effect. Commercials are not the same as an act of rhetorical public speech, but they do have a lot to teach us about psychological manipulation. Psychological manipulation is a type of social influence that aims to change the perception or behavior of others through underhanded means. Understanding how this works can then help us to identify it when it is used in public speeches. Take around five commercials and write a paragraph of 50-100 words on each, identifying all of the techniques used to persuade the audience that the product is worth buying. Think carefully about the images and words that are used. What emotional response is provoked by the commercial? Are celebrities or so-called “experts” brought in to provide proof? Is this proof valid?
For my second video, I decided to watch the "taco bells, Nacho Fries" They did a great marketing strategy. During the time Horror movies were a big trend but unfortunately, taco bell was selling food, not a movie. So they decided to make the first few seconds seem like it was a horror movie but while still have the nacho fries on the screen. Then they showed the nacho fries as the villain or horror. That made the viewer intrigued. Even if at that point they decide to skip the video, they won't forget it. Like I said earlier, horror movies were big at that time, so even if they wanted to forget it would be a challenge. Also because they continued watching means that they were interested in the commercial.
When watching Hulu I found this ad and fell in love with it. The song was so catchy that my brother and I sing it for fun. The actors portray amazing emotions that seem so natural. The Commercial I'm talking about is "Tag Team Helps With Dessert - GEICO Insurance" They make the commercial funny with different angles, a unique song, emotions, and even the little dances were entertaining to watch. The producers wanted to make something unique. Even though it could seem random it not tho. It makes it clear with a story and makes it unique with comedy.

Answer:
I watched a commercial for a shower gel that used literary devices. For example, the line “this product is a bouquet in a bottle” uses metaphor, and the line “you’ll smell as sweet as spring” uses alliteration and simile. The literary devices made the product sound good, but it didn’t persuade me to buy the shower gel.
The second commercial was for a brand of honey. The husband is making breakfast and says to his wife, “It makes that bland breakfast cereal as sweet as you, honey!” The advertisers use the word honey to refer to both the wife and the product. The commercial also uses personification with an animated bee that talks throughout the commercial. Finally the commercial uses onomatopoeia with the ending “Get the right start to a buzzzzzing day!” I liked the personification of the bee and the last line. While the commercial was entertaining, it didn’t make me want to go out and buy the honey.
The third commercial was a radio ad for a sale at a popular department store. The speaker deliberately speaks in a hurried tone to emphasize that the sale is for a limited time. The speaker builds a sense of urgency by suggesting buyers “grab the best deals” before everyone else can get there. The commercial also makes use of hyperbole with phrases such as “once in a lifetime discounts.” The hyperbole in this commercial got my attention. It made we wonder if I could go to the sale and get a good deal on a new pair of shoes.
