Read the passage from When Birds Get Flu by John DiConsiglio. Dr. Dowell had proven that bird flu could pass from person to person. But still, it hadn’t been spread easily. Which excerpt from earlier in the text best provides evidence to support Dr. Dowell’s conclusion in this passage? The next step for Dr. Dowell and his colleagues was to determine how mother and daughter had caught the flu. After helping her uncle bury some dead chickens, the girl developed a stomachache and a high fever, Dowell learned. During her day in the hospital, she never left her daughter’s room. That meant the mother most likely caught bird flu directly from her infected daughter. It had become even more dangerous than before. Now many other people would be at risk of getting sick and dying.

Kids Caught In Burning Building
By Appleπ101
Three young boys performed an act of bravery that we will remember them for forever. Dally, Ponyboy, and Johnny were driving home after an exhausting day of work. Passing the church, they see that our church is on fire! As if hardwired into their system, the soldiers jump out of the car and immediately go to save children that were trapped inside. As a chaperone recalls, she was crying for help as other cars drove past without even thinking!
Ponyboy’s district hearing can distinguish the screams of children inside the blazing building. They had been on a picnic. Acting on instinct, Johnny & Ponyboy quickly climb into the burning church through a splintered window, not caring if their lives are on the line, but only thinking about the heartbroken parents that would have been brought with the terrible news.
Now in intensive care, Ponyboy recalls not even thinking about his own safety, but only about the safety of the kids. Johnny and Ponyboy lift the children carefully out of the window, their lungs getting charred with the spitting embers and smoke. As Johnny lifts the last child out of the window, Dally appears that the roof is about to cave in!
The roof crumbles, and Johnny pushes Ponyboy out of the window, and the last thing he hears is the sound of Johnny’s scream. Ponyboy starts to go back in for Johnny, but Dally, knowing what may happen, knocks out Ponyboy. The children are in stable conditions thanks to our heroes.
Later, Ponyboy wakes up in an ambulance, with one of the schoolteachers, who was not able to save the children from the burning church. Jerry Wood, the teacher strongly believes that the boys may have gone to a superhero training camp! All three boys are injured, but Johnny’s back may have possibly have been broken. He was struck by a piece of burning timber as it came down in splinters on Johnny’s back. Tests are still to be done. Ponyboy late reveals that the boys are juvenile delinquents. Now, this story has sparked attention all across town, asking us all, are delinquents really more capable than us?

Which if I see best supports the idea that Mary is beginning to change?
Hello. You have not shown the text to which this question is related, which makes it impossible for it to be answered accurately. However, I will try to help you in the best possible way.
It is only possible to answer this question by reading the text. However, the best way to observe that Mary is starting to change is to show a behavior or thought that she is abandoning in the course of the story. In that case, to answer that question, you must identify this modification of Mary, where she no longer presents a thought, an opinion, a desire and even a behavior that she used to have.
What is tone in writing?
It’s a simple question, but the answer can be rather complicated. In this post, we’ll break down the 9 different types of tones in writing.
In basic terms, tone usually refers to how a writer uses certain words in a specific way to convey non-verbal observations about specific subjects. Not only does tone help to deliver facts, but it delivers them with an attitude. With emotion. With a personal perspective.
1. Joyful
This tone in writing focuses on the positive emotions that are experienced in the moment of an action. If you eat something you like, then you feel joy. When you experience reciprocal love, you feel joy.
Writers use this tone to create relationship-building experiences between their readers and their characters.
2. Serious
This tone in writing creates a level of suspense within the reader. With this tone, the writer conveys the message that the concepts in the text are important. This, in turn, increases the reader’s focus.
3. Humorous
Being funny does more than make people laugh. It also makes them begin to think about difficult concepts in a way that feels safe.
This tone in writing is often intended to draw the reader into a story or narrative so they can engage with certain facts or opinions the author feels are important to share.
4. Sad
Sadness is a very real part of the human condition. In many ways, our saddest days define who we are as people. When incorporated as a tone in writing, the reader becomes sympathetic with the characters or the author. This empathy will keep them engaged with the narrative.
5. Formal
This tone in writing is often seen from an academic standpoint. It requires structured language, higher reading skills, and presents more facts that can be proven than the opinions of the writer.
6. Informal
The goal of this content is to have an informal tone. It’s conversational, but still conveys a certain sense of expertise within the subject material.
7. Optimistic
There’s a lot of bad stuff going on in the world today. Yet there is also a belief that the world can and will be a better place one day if we’re willing to work for it. This would be an example of an optimistic tone.
8. Pessimistic
When there’s a lot of bad stuff going on in the world, it can feel like that bad stuff will only get worse. That kind of tone would be an example of being pessimistic. Pessimism is not realism. Being pessimistic means having a belief that something will never get better, even if the facts may seem to indicate otherwise.
9. Horror
This tone of voice is threatening in nature. It speaks to the core fears that people have and forces them to confront those fears.
Answer:
Tone is a way for authors to express their thoughts and emotions through writing.

From “Self-Made Men” by Frederick Douglass
6 Our best and most valued acquisitions have been obtained either from our contemporaries or from those who have preceded us in the field of thought and discovery. We have all either begged, borrowed or stolen. We have reaped where others have sown, and that which others have strown, we have gathered. It must in truth be said, though it may not accord well with self-conscious individuality and self-conceit, that no possible native force of character, and no depth of wealth and originality, can lift a man into absolute independence of his fellowmen, and no generation of men can be independent of the preceding generation. The brotherhood and inter-dependence of mankind are guarded and defended at all points. I believe in individuality, but individuals are, to the mass, like waves to the ocean. The highest order of genius is as dependent as is the lowest. It, like the loftiest waves of the sea, derives its power and greatness from the grandeur and vastness of the ocean of which it forms a part. We differ as the waves, but are one as the sea. To do something well does not necessarily imply the ability to do everything else equally well. If you can do in one direction that which I cannot do, I may in another direction, be able to do that which you cannot do. Thus the balance of power is kept comparatively even, and a self-acting brotherhood and inter-dependence is maintained.
7 Nevertheless, the title of my lecture is eminently descriptive of a class and is, moreover, a fit and convenient one for my purpose, in illustrating the idea which I have in view. In the order of discussion I shall adopt the style of an old-fashioned preacher and have a "firstly," a "secondly," a "thirdly," a "fourthly" and, possibly, a "conclusion."
8 My first is, "Who are self-made men?" My second is, "What is the true theory of their success?" My third is, "The advantages which self-made men derive from the manners and institutions of their surroundings," and my fourth is, "The grounds of the criticism to which they are, as a class, especially exposed."
Which sentence from the excerpt best expresses the author’s message in this part of the text?
A. “We have all either begged, borrowed or stolen.”
B. “I believe in individuality, but individuals are, to the mass, like waves to the ocean.”
C. “In the order of discussion I shall adopt the style of an old-fashioned preacher and have ‘firstly,’ a ‘secondly,’ a ‘thirdly,’ a ‘fourthly’ and, possibly, a ‘conclusion.’”
D. My first is, "Who are self-made men?" My second is, "What is the true theory of their success?”
Based on this excerpt, the audience of the text can be inferred to be—
A. people interested in the practices of preachers.
B. people interested in the values of American society.
C. people interested in the achievements of individuals.
D. people interested the biography of Frederick Douglass.
