The reader, White Dolphin, you have read about Dougie Evans and Kara's speeches to save the dolphin. Write what you think of the two speeches? Whose appeal was more effective? Why? If you were in the audience, whose speech would have convinced you?

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

white Dolphin is the second awesome book by Gill Lewis. It is set in a fishing village in Cornwall and a lot of the action takes place on the beach, the cliffs or in the harbour. Many of the people in the community depend on the sea to earn a living.

Kara and her Dad are depressed, upset and confused. Kara's mother, who was a marine biologist and conservationist, disappeared while she was on a research trip, and Kara and her Dad are living with his sister Bev, but Bev is expecting another baby and the house is already overcrowded so Kara and her Dad will have to move out soon.

They have so many debts that they are going to have to sell their beloved boat Moana which is particularly special as Kara's parents restored it together.

They are at war with Dougie Evans and his son Jake who have a grudge against them. Dougie employs a lot of people in his fishing fleet and he wants to get the ban on dredging in the harbour lifted, so that he can make more money easily, but Kara is determined that it should be kept, so that the seabed and all its creatures will not be destroyed.

The white Dolphin plays an important part in the story and it is a precious link with Kara's mother.

This book has lots of things in it that remind me of Sky Hawk, such as the endangered animals, the sick or disabled friend, the rather strange old person that the villagers don't like very much, and the professional environmentalists.

In both books the mean characters change for the better.

There are lots of very strong characters in this book. As well as Kara who was so determined. I liked Miss Pendula who many people think is mad. She lives alone on the cliffs and cares for sick birds.

There is also Felix who achieved amazing things in spite of his disability and Daisy, Kara's cousin who stood up to the bullies who were making fun of Felix even though she is only five.

I admired the Head teacher who was kind and understanding to Kara even though she did something really bad at school.

In the end, Kara achieves something that no adult has been able to do.

Read the book to find out how she does it!

I would recommend this book to anyone from seven to seventy plus , especially if they care about the environment.

There are only 47 white dolphins left in this world. do not forget that we are from 1 planet and should live like 1 family. This world is a house for all creatures, not only humans. have you ever thought that what would happen to us when there would be no animal in this world to escape from us? This means we will be bored by eating only vegetables and fruits. This time is very far away but we can stop it right now until it is very late for it. It’s time to take action, it’s time to wake up. thank you for your time.

Opera refers to a dramatic art form, originating in Europe, in which the emotional content is conveyed to the audience as much through music, both vocal and instrumental, as it is through lyrics. By contrast, in musical theatre an actor’s dramatic performance is primary and the music plays a lesser role, the drama is presented using the primary elements of theatre such as scenery, costumes and acting. However, the words of the opera, or libretto are sung rather than spoken. The singers are accompanied by a musical ensemble ranging from a small instrumental ensemble to a full symphonic orchestra.. 1.It is pointed out in the reading that opera ______________

In informs the readers about the key idea('to convey emotional content) and techniques of this art form('through music, both vocal and instrumental') which is contrary to the dramatic art performed by the actors on stage as they offer a secondary role to the music. In your opinion, would any high school students in today's society find Transcendentallst bellefs relevant? Support your
answer with examples from "Self-Rellance". Answers should be at least 150 words.

Answers

In my opinion, I believe that many high school students in today's society would find Transcendentalist beliefs relevant for a variety of reasons, on of the most prevalent of those being the idea of nonconformity and standing up for your beliefs. In today's society, teenagers tend to feel as though they are treated unfairly, having too much expected of them yet still being treated like children who cannot think or act for themselves. Because of this, I believe that the Transcendentalist ideals would resonate greatly with the high school students in today's society. One of the nonconformist statements in "Self-Reliance," that I believe the high school students of today would find particularly inspiring is, "Whoso would be a man must be a nonconformist. He who would gather immortal palms must not be hindered by the name of goodness, but must explore if it be goodness. Nothing is at last sacred but the integrity of your own mind."

Identify each highlighted example from Helen Keller's memoir as a simile or a metaphor_
"I felt as if invisible hands were holding me, and I made frantic efforts to free myself."
"My mother's only ray of hope came from Dickens's 'American Notes."

Answers

Answer:

The first sentence contains a simile while the second sentence has a metaphor.

Explanation:

Simile and metaphor are figures of speech that compare different things to each other with the purpose of vividly describing a similar characteristic between them. The difference between both figures of speech is that the simile makes the comparison by using words such as "like" or "as". The metaphor, on the other hand, does not use such words. Study the examples below to better visualize the difference:

Simile: Your eyes are like stars.

Metaphor: Your eyes are stars.

In both of the sentences above, someone's eyes are being compared to stars, which probably means they are big and bright. However, the first sentence relies on the word "like" to establish the comparison, therefore constituting a simile. The second sentence does not, forming a metaphor.

Having that in mind:

"I felt as if invisible hands were holding me, and I made frantic efforts to free myself."  - We have a simile here. The speaker uses "as if" to compare her feeling to hands holding her. She probably had a feeling of being restrained.

"My mother's only ray of hope came from Dickens's 'American Notes." - No one literally has a ray of hope. There is no such thing in the natural world. However, a ray is something the shines, that makes a dark place brighter. We can attribute such idea to the feeling of hope - it makes dark and difficult situations look brighter, better. Since there are no words such as "like" or "as", what we have here is a metaphor.

Answer:

Similes include "like" and/or "as". While a metaphor is a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable. So in this case the first one would be "simile" and the second would be "as".

Freedom

Freedom is an innate right which humans have since their birth. Freedom is not something that can be touched, seen, felt or reached. All this gives a vague idea about freedom. What exactly does freedom mean?

Different people have different opinion, definition and thoughts about the idea of freedom. Some talk about freedom in political sense, some talk about social freedom, some about personal independence and some define it as religious freedom. But the fact that everyone wants to be free, holds true in all cases.

Freedom is the choice to live one’s life doing what one wants, live where one wants, eat by own choice and learn what one’s heart desires. This means that freedom can apply to different aspects of life and freedom is not an absolute term.

Reading Mr. Underwood's editorial about Tom Robinson, Scout concludes, "Tom had been given due process of law to the day of his death . . . But in the secret court of men's hearts Atticus had no case." What does she mean?

Answers

In this quote, Scout wants to highlight how difficult it was for a black man to get access to justice at the time. She tells us that Tom Robinson had been given "due process of law." This implies that Tom Robinson was treated fairly in the eyes of the law because he had had a lawyer and a trial.

However, Scout also highlights the fact that, besides these advantages, Robinson's trial was definitely not fair and just. In fact, he was harshly judged because of his skin colour, which many people took to be almost evidence of Robinson's guilt. Therefore, as Scout highlights, Tom had "lost" in front of his peers, and he was never able to gain support from people who were against him from the beginning. Tom had lost the case in the "secret court of men's heart."

As long as old Gordéy was alive and Iván's father was still able to manage the household, the peasants lived as neighbors should. If the

the barns and outhouses, hiding things from one another or backbiting were never thought of in those days.
That was in the fathers' time. When the sons came to be at the head of the families, everything changed.

I was only twelve. The gymnasium seemed so big, but this time it did not intimidate me. This one as well as others had intimidated me for weeks, but now I had conquered them. It had been my very first time competing in a volleyball tournament for my school, and we had won. All the nervousness and anxiety, all that yelling from the coach and teammates had been worth it. We lined up, side by side, facing the seats. My mother and younger brother were there, smiling, happy to see me happy. My mother had made a point of driving me to every single game and watching them to the very end. Somehow, it felt as if the medal I was about to receive was hers as much as it was mine.

All of a sudden, her presence was made even more important. Someone had the idea of inviting the parents onto the court to place the medals around our eager necks. No one else’s parents were there; at least for my team. I was sorry for them, but there she came. She was now everyone’s mother, giving each of my teammates their respective medals and a congratulatory hug. We were all her children for a moment, and sharing my mother had never made me happier.

NOTE: I based this in my real-life experience. Feel free to change anything in order to adapt it to your life.
