Read the following excerpt from A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by
James Joyce:
The wide playgrounds were swarming with boys. All were
shouting and the prefects urged them on with strong cries.
The evening air was pale and chilly and after every charge
and thud of the footballers the greasy leather orb flew like
a heavy bird through the grey light. He kept on the fringe of
his line, out of sight of his prefect, out of the reach of the
rude feet, feigning to run now and then. He felt his body
small and weak amid the throng of the players and his
eyes were weak and watery. Rody Kickham was not like
that he would be captain of the third line all the fellows
said.

Read “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost. Which statement best describes the main idea of the poem?
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
A. The speaker informs the reader about two roads.
B. The speaker expresses his feelings about nature.

THE MATCH

There never was a time when the world was without fire, but there was a time when men did not know how to kindle fire; and after they learned how to kindle one, it was a long, long time before they learned how to kindle one easily. In these days we can kindle a fire without any trouble, because we can easily get a match; but we must remember that the match is one of the most wonderful things in the world, and that it took men thousands of years to learn how to make one. Let us learn the history of this familiar little object, the match.

Fire was first given to man by nature itself. When a forest is set on fire by cinders from a neighboring volcano, or when a tree is set ablaze by a thunderbolt, we may say that nature strikes a match. In the early history of the world, nature had to kindle all the fires, for man by his own effort was unable to produce a spark. The first method, then, of getting fire for use was to light sticks of wood at a flame kindled by nature—by a volcano, perhaps, or by a stroke of lightning. These firebrands were carried to the home and used in kindling the fires there. The fire secured in this way was carefully guarded and was kept burning as long as possible. But the flame, however faithfully watched, would sometimes be extinguished. A sudden gust of wind or a sudden shower would put it out. Then a new firebrand would have to be secured, and this often meant a long journey and a deal of trouble.

In 1827, John Walker, a druggist in a small English town, tipped a splint with sulphur, chlorate of potash, and sulphid of antimony, and rubbed it on sandpaper, and it burst into flame. The druggist had discovered the first friction-chemical match, the kind we use to-day. It is called friction-chemical because it is made by mixing certain chemicals together and rubbing them. Although Walker's match did not require the bottle of acid, nevertheless it was not a good one. It could be lighted only by hard rubbing, and it sputtered and threw fire in all directions. In a few years, however, phosphorus was substituted on the tip for antimony, and the change worked wonders. The match could now be lighted with very little rubbing, and it was no longer necessary to have sandpaper upon which to rub it. It would ignite when rubbed on any dry surface, and there was no longer any sputtering. This was the phosphorus match, the match with which we are so familiar.

What is the main idea of the last paragraph?
Early matches were dangerous and awkward.
John Walker made the first match.
Phosphorus was the key to the modern match.
Walker's match was better than what came before.

Visualization and categorization work well for visual learners. is this a technique you think benefits you as a learner? why or why not?

Answers

Answer:

Visualization and categorization benefit me a lot as a student. Visualization helps me in classes I need to visualize in for example art class when you need to think of what to draw or paint you have to visualize it. And categorization can help you not just in the classroom but can also help you in the real world. For example you can categorize all the homework you need to do that day because its due and all the homework you can do tomorrow based on when it is due.

Explanation:

Its not the best answer but I got 100 so.

Yes, visualization and categorization can be beneficial techniques for students, especially visual learners.

Visual learners tend to comprehend and retain information more effectively when it is presented in a visual format. Visualization helps them create mental images, aiding in understanding and memory recall.

Categorization assists in organizing and connecting related concepts, allowing visual learners to establish meaningful associations.

These techniques enhance their learning experience by capitalizing on their preferred mode of processing information.

However, it is essential to recognize that students have diverse learning styles, and while visualization and categorization may be beneficial for some, other learners may excel with different approaches such as auditory or kinesthetic methods.

Flexibility in teaching strategies can cater to the varying needs of students.
