What is the opinion of the USA Today editorial board regarding mandatory voting? What are
the essay's main points in support of this stance?
Answer:
Voter turnout in U.S. elections hardly inspires pride. The nation lags far behind most modern democracies in the percentage of its citizens who go to the polls. Even in presidential elections, only about 60% of voters show up; turnout for midterm elections is far lower — just 36% last fall.
Policymakers have tried for years to come up with ways to increase those numbers — early voting, same-day registration and voting by mail — but the impact has been small. President Obama provoked controversy last month when he mused about requiring Americans to vote, as is done in Australia and several other countries. The president was responding to a question about how to offset the effect of big money in politics. "That would counteract money more than anything," the president said.
In Australia, 90% of eligible voters go to the polls despite minimal enforcement. Registered voters who fail to vote get a form letter asking why; almost any excuse will do to get someone off the hook. Those with no valid excuse face a fine of about $20, which can escalate if someone refuses to pay, though that is rare.
But the idea is a non-starter in the defiantly individualistic U.S., for good reason: A nation predicated on personal freedom rightly forces its citizens to do only a very few things — pay taxes, serve on juries, educate children, be drafted and serve in some wars, and lately, buy health insurance.
Explanation: There's a compelling reason for each of those, but not to require people to vote. Low turnout, troubling as it is, doesn't pose an existential threat in a nation that has succeeded despite it, nor would forcing disinterested voters to the polls have much value.
If there is an exception, it's in local elections, for which turnout is generally dismal despite the high impact of local government.

In December 2015, the establishment secured $13 million in seed money from Sequoia Capital and Aleph.Researchers acknowledge that this is due to the relaxing effect of the color and its youthful impression. Question 6 of 15
Which sentence uses correct capitalization?
A. We moved West for my dad's work when I was just a baby.
B. Leading the opening ceremony was Queen Elizabeth II.
O C. As long as she could remember, she loved Lewis Carroll's book
Alice in Wonderland.
O D. Martin Van Buren was the first American President from New York.
Answer:
Explanation:
A and D both capitalize words incorrectly ("west" and "president" are regular nouns that do not require capitalization).
C seems to be proper, as the name of the author and the name of the book (not counting the word "in") is capitalized. However, the lack of punctuation is suspicious (since the book's name ought to be in quotes and italicized). In addition, it ought to read "she HAD loved" - I believe it's a grammatical error to omit it.
B Is properly capitalized, as the name/title of the queen and the first word of the sentence is capitalized.
I'd go with B. Let us know which answer ends up being the right one if it isn't B

Simile - A figure of speech that is used to make a comparison between two things that aren't alike but do have something in common. The key words included are 'like, and as'.
Metaphor - A figure of speech that is used to make a comparison between two things that aren't alike but do have something in common. Unlike a simile, they don't use like/as. They are less direct.
Personification - Personification gives human traits and qualities, such as emotions, desires, sensations, gestures and speech, often by way of a metaphor. Personification is much used in visual arts. Examples in writing are “the leaves waved in the wind”, “the ocean heaved a sigh” or “the Sun smiled at us”.
Hyperbole - Hyperbole is the use of exaggeration as a rhetorical device or figure of speech. In rhetoric, it is also sometimes known as auxesis. In poetry and oratory, it emphasizes strong feelings, and creates strong impressions. As a figure of speech, it is usually not meant to be taken literally.
Onomatopoeia - An onomatopoeia is a word that actually looks like the sound it makes, and we can almost hear those sounds as we read. Here are some words that are used as examples of onomatopoeia: slam, splash, bam, babble, warble, gurgle, mumble, and belch. But there are hundreds of such words.
Alliteration - Alliteration is when two or more words that start with the same sound are used repeatedly in a phrase or a sentence. For example, 'tasty tacos' is considered an alliteration, but 'thirty typist' is not, because 'th' and 'ty' don't sound the same. Alliteration is a type of repetition- a repetition of sounds.

Why are Shakespeare’s plays considered difficult for modern students understand
Answer:
Shakespeare left out, rearranged, or altered words so that they fit the structure of his verse.
Explanation:
Shakespeare twists the language structure to fit the rhythm. Along these lines, rather than having Richard III state "buried in the profound chest of the sea" he has him state "in the profound chest of the sea buried," moving the action word as far as possible of the sentence. In the past, this was a typical custom among individuals composing verses to tunes, to make them fit the beat of the melody.

Rip Van Winkle"" and the Emergence of an American Mythology. i have to write an essay please help
Answer:
Mythology and mythological stories are stories that transcend time and society. They are present in almost every society and they share many of the same characteristics even though the languages may not be the same. In mythology the stories are often set in the past, filled with remarkable characters, feature heroic or mysterious events, and convey a positive message about their nation or its people (Burrows et al 1999). For America, some of these stories are Paul Bunyan, Johnny Appleseed or Rip Van Winkle. The story of Rip Van Winkle is the first tale of American Mythology and after people heard this story it began an influx of mythological stories written by American authors.
Rip Van Winkle caters to most of the points established that make it a myth. It is set in the past, and in a mysterious location. It is set in the Catskill Mountains, years before the American Revolutionary war. Rip is a very happy man and is loved by the town and its entire people. On one winter day, he wanted to escape his Wife’s nagging so he climbed up a mountain and heard a voice (Irving 1918). It was a man who required his help of carrying a keg up a mountainside. He sees some bearded men bowling and he begins to drink the liquor. Here is a mysterious event and now remarkable characters that Rip Van Winkle comes into contact with.
Another instance where Rip Van Winkle coincides with the traditions of American Mythology is when he falls asleep after drinking too much he wakes up twenty hears later with his beard much longer and in a town that is post-revolutionary war. He had slept through the entire war (Irving, 1819). This projects the characteristic of American Mythology because it contains mysterious events and their consequences. He wakes up after helping, what he seems to find out later, are a bunch of ghosts.
The impact of these characteristics on the story is that it makes it engaging and fun because it contains parts of history with parts of fiction to grasp the reader’s attention. It contains a bit of history plus mythological characters. This also speaks volumes about the society as a whole during the time the book takes place (or the readers interpretation of the society). Rip Van Winkle is portrayed as a lazy man, but he is very amiable and doesn’t have many faults other than his laziness. It impacts the readers experience because the material engages the reader with history and fiction, often blending the two to make the reader decide if the whole tale is true or not.
Overall, Rip Van Winkle is a great story that portrays American Ideals and the notion of the American Dream at that time. The mythology of the story in connection with Rip Van Winkle spans generations and teaches us about the society of the people during the revolutionary war yet is entertaining and contains many requirements of a mythological story.

How can you describe a problem using a personal narrative? PLS HELP QUICK
Answer:
I would say to use all the parties involved to shape their experience from a different perspective. The way you shape your perspective can have a big impact on how your reader sees your all-inclusive and overall plot. The author should take part as one of the characters and you should show WHAT happened and you need to establish your perspective uniquely. A key thing is that you want your reader to take away from what you are writing, and the tone of voice you are using. Also for the problem, why was it a problem? Who helped solve or help the problem? If there is a solution, then explain that in detail, and since it is a personal narrative, how do you feel overall from the problem or conflict? I HOPE THIS HELPS, PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG!
