Does the Electoral College still make sense for today's election? Why or why not?

True or False : To win the presidential election, a candidate must win the majority of votes cast by individual voters.

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

Explanation:

The true false question is false. A candidate can have fewer votes than his opponent and still be elected President of the United States. If my memory serves me correctly, I believe John Kennedy was one example. I believe that Trump is another.

The Electoral College was a good idea when the States were first deciding the President because communication was very poor and it made sense to have a body that represented the individual states.

I don't think it is a particularly good idea now. The winner of an election (without getting into the mail in Ballads problem) should be half the votes plus 1.  We have good enough communications that elections can be determined just by counting all the votes cast. The Electoral College puts too much emphasis on places like Texas Florida New York and California. The rust belt becomes important because the most populous states are split.

Popular vote should decide.

What economist opposed Thomas Malthus's views on population growth and

Answers

Answer:

The correct response is  Ester Boserup.

Explanation:

Ester Boserup had a different view of population growth than Malthus.  Malthus believed that the potential for population growth is exponential, whereas the capacity for the land to support the growing population in agricultural terms was only linear.  Boserup's theory holds that increases and decreases in population will change the intensity of agricultural practices in society and so human ingenuity is an important part of the dynamic. Whereas Malthus believed that agricultural pressures would bring on death and shortages when populations exceed the carrying capacity, Boserup argued that people will adapt and respond to the pressures by increasing the production of food using machinery and fertilizers, for example.

Despite claims to the contrary, political leaders frequently look to public-opinion surveys to stay in touch with shifts in popular sentiment. This raises questions about whether leaders should "lead" even when their decisions are inconsistent with what a majority of Americans claim to want, or whether they should heed the will of the majority. Which of these views would the framers of the Constitution support? Which of these views is more appropriate for a politician in a democracy?

Answers

Answer and Explanation:

1. The authors of the constitution would support that the leaders respond to the request of the population, as long as this was a rational request and in accordance with the government's objectives to create a strong nation. In that case, other government leaders, who represent the people, would assess what would be the best method of conduct for the president to act, taking into account progress and social, political and economic well-being.

2. Democracy claims that all of a nation's political power comes from the people. Thus, a politician in a democracy must listen to the population and act according to their wishes, since democracy puts the politician in a position of submission to the people.

While economic analysis shows that free trade increases consumption for all trading partners, criticism against free trade has been expressed by several policy makers and voters. Trade proponents emphasize the positive net benefits of trade, increasing the economic pie for each trading partner and benefiting each country as a whole. Critics point to the distributional effects of trade in primarily importing countries, benefiting consumers with lower prices and harming some producers. In the U.S. some manufacturing workers have been made worse off as their labor is demanded less. What is the best policy for the U.S. to follow to maximize the well-being of all U.S. workers? Explain your answer. A. Pull out of free trade agreements such as NAFTA that potentially harm U.S. manufacturing workers, in the hope that jobs in the manufacturing industries will return to the U.S. B. Impose tariffs on imported manufactured goods to protect domestic manufacturing jobs that will reemploy workers. C. Keep tariffs on imported goods low but provide special unemployment insurance for workers who lose their jobs due to free trade agreements in order to guarantee displaced workers retain their same living standard while they find a new job. D. Keep tariffs on imported goods but establish and subsidize educational, training, and placement programs for workers who lose their jobs due to free trade agreements.

Answers

Answer:

The best policy for the U.S. to follow to maximize the well-being of all U.S. workers is:

A.  Pull out of free trade agreements such as NAFTA that potentially harm U.S. manufacturing workers, in the hope that jobs in the manufacturing industries will return to the U.S.

Explanation:

The other three options still impose some kind of tariffs on imported goods, which negate free trade agreements.  The best way out is to pull out, and then renegotiate trade agreements.  That is exactly what the Trump administration did with the new United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).  This new agreement, which replaced NAFTA, was concluded by the three countries on July 1, 2020.  According to the USMCA, the new trade agreement will equally benefit all workers, farmers, ranchers, and businesses in the US, Mexico, and Canada.

PLEASE HELP i want to know if this essay is good enough for me to submitDid you know that adding too much greenhouse gases makes the earths atmosphere too warm that it puts animals and humans in danger. There is a blue lining around the earth called earths atmosphere, and that blue protects us from the suns harmful rays, keeps us from freezing during the cold seasons, and protects us from space (as you may know space does not have oxygen to where humans can breath normally). Wait what was that.. What can you do to stop adding greenhouse gases to the earth? Well thats exactly what I am going to educate you on. So just sit back and pay attention. So as I said adding too much greenhouse gases puts animals and humans in danger. I know what your thinking. How bad can greenhouse gases be to put animals and humans in danger. Actually, it is so bad it adds heat to the earth and even when its hot enough already. Every year it feels hotter and hotter in the summer. Thats because humans are adding the greenhouse gases to the earths atmosphere. In fact, most humans are adding greenhouse gases to the atmosphere without knowing it. If you think about it, the bigger our population: the more resources we need to live. One of the biggest resources humans need to live is energy. Most of the things we use everyday uses energy. For example: light, cars, cell phones, computers, TVs, and video games. There is more than that but that is all I can think of for now. The greenhouse effect is a natural process that causes the earth to warm up. This process involves the sun and many gases in our atmosphere. Our energy comes from fossil fuels, which is oil, coal, and natural gas. Fossil fuels are an important resource for energy. Fossils are formed when plants and animals die and are covered in sediment and pressed for many thousands of years. Climate change is very dangerous. That is why I need to explain to you what you can do around and in your home to help stop global warming. Global warming is a process that is caused by fossil fuels, greenhouse gases, and the greenhouse effect. So listen carefully if you are interested in knowing how to stop global warming starting with you. The biggest factor of climate change is the use of energy which as I said is made from the burning of fossil fuels. So when you are at home and a light or the TV is on and it is not in use it would be a big help to turn it off and conserve energy within your home. Carbon dioxide is a harmful gas to humans and animals so planting some trees or flowers also helps a lot. When you are driving it adds more greenhouse gas because you use fuel to fill up your tank, so using a public transportation or riding a bike will help more than anything else when you are outside. When you are in the kitchen cooking (I know even cooking adds greenhouse gases to the earth) using a toaster or a microwave to cook some food will save much more energy than using an oven . Another big way that energy is used within your kitchen is a dishwasher. Dishwashers use a lot of water and produce a lot of heat, so hand washing a drip drying your dishes is a much more easier way to save energy. And last but not least when your at school recycling stuff that can be recycled instead of throwing it away is also a way you can help stop global warming. Making sure the computers you use in your classroom are all off or on sleep mode when not in use is a even better way to help in school. But the most helpful when trying to help stop global warming is riding your bike or skateboard to school instead of asking your parents for a ride. So I hope you enjoyed my essay and remember helping stop global warming is a good deed many people dont think of. Save energy the best you can and have a wonderful day! 12.
